Sherman homeowners and renters get to shop for electricity. Texas retail choice covers the city, so you pick the provider and the plan, while Oncor carries the power to your meter whichever company you sign with. Providers compete for your business on price, contract length and perks, and the poles, wires and meter stay with Oncor.
The table below shows live plans for Sherman addresses on the Oncor network. We checked every price on this page on November 4, 2026, and the page is updated monthly. Under the table you'll see where the Sherman market stands, which listed plan fits which kind of home, and the parts of an Electricity Facts Label (EFL) to read before signing.

This snapshot is from November 4, 2026. Prices are average cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for a 1,000 kWh month unless noted, and they include Oncor's delivery charges.
Among the plans in our Sherman table with current prices, rates at 1,000 kWh run from 7.4¢ to 9.0¢.
Power to Choose, the state-run comparison site, listed 171 plans from 42 providers for Oncor addresses.
Power to Choose's 147 fixed-rate plans (excluding prepaid and time-of-use) ranged from 6.2¢ to 16.3¢, and 75 of them cost 13.1¢ or less.
On Power to Choose, the typical 12-month fixed plan cost 13.0¢.
Bill-credit plans held the three lowest 1,000 kWh prices on Power to Choose (6.2¢, 6.9¢ and 7.4¢), and Power to Choose priced those credit plans at 18.0¢ to 27.0¢ for a 500 kWh month.
The three cheapest 12-month plans without a credit on Power to Choose stayed between 11.8¢ and 12.4¢ at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh.
Oncor's delivery charges are $4.06 a month plus 6.8673¢ per kWh, from an EFL dated October 4, 2026. A 1,000 kWh month carries $72.73 in delivery before any energy charge.
The average Texas residential price was 15.91¢ per kWh in August 2026, a preliminary figure from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
What this means for you: if your fixed rate is above about 13¢, or you're on a month-to-month plan, switching this month will very likely lower your bill.
The cheapest plans in our Sherman table share one trait. Each costs far more at 500 kWh than at 1,000 kWh, the mark of a bill credit tied to monthly usage.
4Change Energy Maxx Saver Value 12 and Frontier Utilities Frontier Saver Plus 12: 20.3¢ at 500 kWh, 7.4¢ at 1,000 kWh and 13.4¢ at 2,000 kWh.
Frontier Saver Plus 24: 21.3¢, 8.4¢ and 14.5¢.
4Change Energy Maxx Saver Value 24: 22.0¢, 9.0¢ and 15.1¢.
Frontier's listing promises up to $1,500 in usage credits a year. The 4Change listing in our feed gives no credit rule, so check the EFL for the exact usage level before you commit. Our guide to reading an Electricity Facts Label points you to the right section.
These plans suit households whose usage lands at or above 1,000 kWh every month. In a mild month near 500 kWh, they cost 20.3¢ or more per kWh. At 2,000 kWh they show 13.4¢ to 15.1¢, above the 11.8¢ to 12.4¢ that Power to Choose's cheapest credit-free 12-month plans charged at every usage level. For homes with uneven usage through the year, a plan without a credit will often come out ahead.
Start with your own usage. Headline prices are quoted at 1,000 kWh, but the EFL shows three averages (500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh), and the one nearest your typical month is closest to what you'll actually pay.
For November 2026, a 12-month fixed plan at about 12¢ per kWh or less at your usage is a good price in Sherman.
16¢ per kWh is higher than the EIA's 15.91¢ Texas average and higher than the 13.0¢ typical 12-month plan on Power to Choose, so shop around.
A month-to-month rate after an expired contract very likely costs more than the plans in our table, and you can leave one without a fee.
To see your usage, log in to Smart Meter Texas, the official portal for Texas smart meter data, or total the kWh on a year of bills. The EIA puts the average Texas home at 1,096 kWh a month in 2024.
High bills in Sherman usually come down to three things.
Summer cooling: air conditioning can lift a home's usage well above its spring and fall levels, so test any plan at your summer kWh as well as at 1,000 kWh.
Oncor's delivery charges: $4.06 a month plus 6.8673¢ per kWh, passed through by every provider. That's $72.73 at 1,000 kWh, more than half of the bill on the 13.0¢ typical 12-month plan listed on Power to Choose. The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) sets these charges and lists the current delivery rates for every Texas utility.
Expired contracts: once a fixed term ends without a new plan, you move to a month-to-month rate that can change from bill to bill.
You can soften the first two by comparing plans at your summer usage and locking a fixed price before the heat arrives. Renewing on time takes care of the third.
Two different companies handle your electricity in Sherman. Your retail electric provider (REP) sells you the energy and sends the bill. Oncor is the transmission and distribution utility (TDU): it owns the poles and lines, reads your smart meter and repairs the network after storms. All providers use the same Oncor grid, so your choice of REP doesn't affect reliability.
For outages or downed lines, contact Oncor, not your provider. Oncor's outage line, 888-313-4747, is available 24/7, and you can also text OUT to 66267 or use the Oncor outage page. Our guide to TDU delivery charges in Texas explains what Oncor's charges pay for.
The best provider for your neighbor may be the wrong one for you, because the right plan depends on your usage and how long you want to commit. The plans below all appear in our Sherman table, with average prices at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh, checked November 4, 2026.
Steady use of 1,000 kWh or more: 4Change Energy Maxx Saver Value 12 or Frontier Utilities Frontier Saver Plus 12 (20.3¢, 7.4¢, 13.4¢). These are the lowest prices in the table if you clear the credit every month.
A longer price lock: Frontier Saver Plus 24 (21.3¢, 8.4¢, 14.5¢) or 4Change Maxx Saver Value 24 (22.0¢, 9.0¢, 15.1¢). Both are two-year plans with the same credit-style pricing.
Flexibility to leave: the 4Change Maxx Saver plans charge $20 per remaining month to cancel, compared with a flat $150 on Frontier Saver Plus 12 and $200 on Frontier Saver Plus 24.
Low usage: none of our listed plans is designed for small homes or apartments, as each costs 20.3¢ or more at 500 kWh. On Power to Choose, the cheapest credit-free 12-month plans stayed between 11.8¢ and 12.4¢ at all three usage levels.
No credit at all: every plan in our Sherman table this month relies on a usage credit. Power to Choose listed 12-month plans without one from 12.0¢ at 1,000 kWh.
100% renewable: our Sherman table doesn't include one this month. Power to Choose listed 43 fully renewable plans for the Oncor area on November 4, and our reviews of Gexa Energy and Green Mountain Energy cover two renewable-focused providers.
Weigh at least three plans at your own usage, and open each EFL to confirm the terms on the day you enroll. Our provider reviews cover each company in more depth.
Fixed-rate plans keep your energy price the same for the whole term, commonly 12, 24 or 36 months, so a summer price spike won't reach your rate. Ending the contract early can trigger an early termination fee (ETF); among the plans above, that runs from $20 per remaining month to a flat $200. Oncor's delivery charges can still change during your term, because the PUCT sets them, not your provider. See more fixed-rate electricity plans.
Variable plans have no fixed term and can be cancelled any time, but the rate may change every month. On Power to Choose on November 4, variable plans for Oncor addresses ran from 9.9¢ to 18.4¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh. They fit short stays best and carry the most risk when summer demand peaks.
With a prepaid plan you buy power in advance and top up as you go, with no credit check and no deposit. Our Sherman table has none this month. Prepaid plans for the Oncor area on Power to Choose cost 16.5¢ to 17.9¢ per kWh at 1,000 kWh, more than most fixed plans. Our no-deposit electricity guide walks through the choices.
Renewable plans are backed by renewable energy credits, frequently tied to Texas wind and solar. Power to Choose listed 43 of its 171 Oncor-area plans as 100% renewable on November 4. Compare green energy plans and read the renewable content line on the EFL.
Time-of-use plans charge less during off-peak hours such as nights or weekends, which can suit overnight EV charging. Power to Choose listed six for the Oncor area this month. Solar buyback plans credit rooftop solar owners for the electricity they export; terms vary widely, so check the credit rate, fees and how leftover credits are treated.
Switching happens online in a few minutes, with no break in service.
Locate your ESI ID (Electric Service Identifier) on a recent bill. It identifies your meter.
Compare plans at your real usage, pick one and sign up with your service address.
Choose your start date. Your new provider handles the handoff with Oncor, and no technician visit is needed.
If you're still under contract, check the end date. Under PUCT rules, there's no early termination fee when your switch takes place no earlier than 14 days before the expiration date on your renewal notice, and your provider must send that notice at least 30 days before the contract ends. The PUCT electricity FAQ spells out the details.
Setting up service at a new Sherman address follows the same steps. Our guide on how to switch electricity providers in Texas covers moves in more detail.
